It’s the end of May, the end of school, the end of warm layers. And the beginning of Summertime!
Summertime. The critical time when gyms, trainers and fitness professionals start pushing their “bikini body”, “summer shape up”, “summer body countdown”… Does something magically happen on the Summer Solstice that we NEED to lose 10 pounds for? Can we not wear shorts, tank tops or bathing suits if we start summer off with a little winter padding?
I like the change of the seasons. It’s one of the best things about living in Ohio. CHANGE. It’s a good word for many things. Let’s CHANGE our unhealthy habits and behaviors. Let’s CHANGE our goals to something more attainable. Let’s CHANGE our outlook and enjoy more things. Let’s CHANGE our attitudes towards extremes and be comfortable with what we already have, what we can already do and what we have already accomplished.
Summertime. Eat those fresh foods from the garden, farmers market or produce section of your grocery.
Summertime. Play ball with those kids. Go biking. Go hiking. Take the dog for a walk. Go swimming. Rent a canoe. Go outside and Play.
Summertime. Enjoy the company of your friends and family. Do all the things listed above with them.
Summertime. Balance. Miss a workout to do the things listed above. Take the kids for ice cream and not worry that it will sabotage your fitness goals.
It’s almost Summertime. Time to CHANGE things up and ENJOY all the season has to offer. Like committing yourself to be the best YOU, you can be. The goal isn’t to magically drop 10 pounds by summer. It’s to get moving and start your days off right while you enjoy all that summer has to offer you. So that you can play ball with your kids, take your dog for a walk, ride your bike… Join some friends in some fun workouts to make you STRONGER for the long haul. If you look leaner in your bathing suit as a result, so be it ;).
